This is a nice 1975 Airstream Argosy motor home. It is 24 feet long on a Chevy 2-ton truck chassis driven by the fabulous 454 ci. V8 with a three speed Allison automatic transmission. It is single axle rear with dual wheels. It has 85,000 actual miles and is fresh from a tune up and service and drives and runs beautifully...this is one STRONG motor.
Stepping inside you immediately notice the Airstream attention to detail and the unmistakably simple elegance of classic Airstream quality. It shows its age with grace. When you sit down in the driver's seat and turn the ignition key, the big 454 comes immediately to life and hums like the thoroughbred it is. It has thousands and thousands of miles and years and years of use left in it, and I would not hesitate a second to take it anywhere the road goes. The tires are fairly recent, about 1500 miles on the rears and 8000 on the fronts. The brakes have had recent service and all the lights work. It gets an honest 8 miles to the gallon at 55 mph. But it wants to go faster… if you hold it at 55, before long it will creep up to 60 and you will have to back off if you want the best fuel mileage. It runs great at 65-70, and is sometimes difficult to keep it there as it wants to go 75-80. The air ride suspension is a dream on the road. And the engine and gearing handle the grades well. I have passed many a newer rig on a mountain pass.
