Ron DuPont’s Story: A Neighbor in Need
Ron DuPont is an 83-year-old Army and National Guard veteran—and a lifelong horticulturist—who lives quietly among us, yet is suffering in silence.
For years, Ron ran a successful plant nursery. Now, he survives by growing flowers and potted plants on a rented plot of land in rural Loxahatchee, selling them each Sunday at the Palm Beach Gardens Green Market. Despite his kind smile and gentle demeanor, few know that Ron lives in severe poverty, with no family left and no proper shelter.
His home is an old, broken-down RV with a collapsed ceiling, gaping holes in the floor, mold, and no hot water. Until recently, he had no electricity or refrigeration. He sleeps in a rotted recliner with springs poking through, bathes with a cold garden hose, and shares what little he has with his beloved cat.
He has never asked for help. But now, he desperately needs it.
Health & Safety Concerns
Suffers from a heart condition, macular degeneration, and a leg wound that nearly required hospitalization.
Refused hospitalization for fear of abandoning his cat and plants, which are his livelihood and companions.
No working bathroom or kitchen. Until recently, had no way to store or prepare food.
Risk of injury from falling through floor holes (which has happened multiple times).
His car, an old Saturn, is barely running and needs repairs to remain functional.
What the Community Has Done (So Far)
Set up a Zelle account so Ron can receive direct donations: Ron DuPont – 561-309-0421
Provided clean clothes, meals, toiletries, a new recliner, a small fridge, and appliances.
Organized volunteers to repair his roof, secure the floor, fix stairs, and restore electricity.
Helped him have his best-ever market day, raising over $2,000 through donations and plant sales.
What’s Still Needed
Phase Two Repairs: Install a new window AC unit, complete flooring, add safe storage and shelves.
Vehicle Help: His car needs a clutch repair and general maintenance.
Housing Support: 211 is helping, but public housing has long waitlists. In the meantime, repairing the RV is the only option.
Ongoing Financial Support: To cover materials, health care needs, and day-to-day essentials.
Community Presence: Simple acts—buying plants, bringing food, or saying hello—mean the world to Ron.

Why This Matters
Ron never drank, smoked, or used drugs. He’s clean-cut, gentle, and proud. He’s worked his entire life. He didn’t fall because of bad decisions—he fell through the cracks of a system not built for the aging poor.
What’s happening now is bigger than just one man. It’s about a community coming together to say: “We see you, Ron. You’re not alone anymore.”
